The WG CONE TONE trombone plunger is co-designed by Hirschman Mutes and one of the world's foremost plunger players, Wycliffe Gordon. The mute's name is inspired by Wycliffe's nickname, "Pinecone." Play what he plays.

This WG CONE TONE is narrower and shallower than the BIG BLUE, with a contour reminiscent of the plungers used by classic trombonists from yesteryear. This is designed primarily as a soloist's mute, whereas the Big Blue shines in section work.
WYCLIFFE GORDON:

"The WG Cone Tone Plunger Mute, is the signature model plunger mute co-designed by myself and two good friends, Ed Hirschman and Kenny Rampton. You see, I really like the Hirschman Mutes Big Blue, but it didn't give me the ability to express myself as I truly wanted. So we decided to work together to make the ultimate soloist's plunger mute." Wycliffe Gordon
