Complimenting the Schmid Digital line, we now offer the original Engelbert Schmid French horn mouthpiece for those that prefer the original, traditionally manufactured, mouthpieces made for Engelbert Schmid since 1981.
The Tilz / Schmid mouthpiece is made via traditional copying techniques, how mouthpieces have been made for over a century. Though carefully replicated, small variations between copies can occur due to the human element and wear to the cutting tools. Also, the Tilz /Schmid mouthpiece is made on a mouthpiece blank, meaning the exterior of all Tilz / Schmid mouthpieces are the same whereas the Digital mouthpiece exterior mirrors the inner cup with a consistent wall thickness. The Tilz/ Schmid construction technique also means these mouthpieces are slighly heavier.
We stock only the most popular sizes of the Tilz / Schmid mouthpiece. If you would like to try sizes we don't stock, please see the corresponding Engelbert Schmid Digital mouthpieces page. Most sizes not stocked can be specially ordered in the Tilz version if desired.
Width and cups: Available in 4 different inner width diameters: 17.0mm,17.5mm, 18.0mm, 18.5 mm. For each inner width there are 6 different cup depths: shallow, semi-shallow, medium, medium deep, deep and extra-deep.
Rim: All Engelbert Schmid digital mouthpieces have the same rim geometry. The rim is 4mm in width for the diameters of 17.0, 17.5 and 18.0. For mouthpieces with a larger inner diameter of 18.5, the rim is reduced to 3.75 mm since the mouthpiece in this instance already covers a very broad portion of the lips.
Shank: The Shank: Engelbert Schmid Mouthpieces have a shank in between Morse and Metric. So they will fit well into practically all mouthpiece receivers. If you don't have an Engelbert Schmid Horn just twist the mouthpiece a little in and it's OK.
